Chatting it up with Chris Harrison
Host of The Bachelor Winter Games #TheBachelorWinterGames
I know who Chris Harrison is and I know that he is the USA host of The Bachelor, but I have a confession. (Bachelor fans, please don’t judge me). Up until this trip I had never watched The Bachelor…I know, I know insert the face of shame. But wait!!! I have another confession, since this trip and our interview with Chris Harrison, I definitely plan on watching The Bachelor Winter Games. (Does that save me from the walk of shame? lol)
Here’s what we’re gonna start with. Let’s make this Global Celebration of Love. OK, let’s define that and figure out what that means. – Chris Harrison on how The Bachelor Winter Games were created.
Chatting it up with Chris Harrison was pretty cool, he is humble and laid back, the conversation flowed like he was an old friend. He had a way of making 25 bloggers feeling like we were old chums and this was a casual conversation and not an interview. I personally think that his ability to do this is why The Bachelor series has been a hit for the past 16 years, he brings an air of authenticity to reality T.V.
Speaking of authenticity we asked about the authenticity of Reality TV and the show. Have you seen a scene where the Cameras didn’t catch it and you said, can you say that again?
We really don’t do that. We never like recreate a moment. The only thing we’ll ever recreate is like say it’s Night One and the Limo, cause the logistics of something messes up like the Limo pulled into the wrong spot, wasn’t in the light and she gets out and she’s like completely dark and staying in the shadow. And like hey guys, let’s back it up a little bit. Let’s do it again. Stuff like that, if it’s just technical. But no, if someone has their first kiss. And it’s like guys, we missed that, can you make out again? No.
Prior to chatting with Chris, we viewed the first episode and I wish I could tell you who got a rose, but yeah they cut that scene out for us so we will be surprised right along with you when the series airs. Nonetheless, I fell in love with a particular character. She seemed super funny, full of life and well she barely spoke English. If I am not mistaken she said she knows about 3 or 4 English phrases. Her name is Yuki and she is from Japan. I wanted to know all about Yuki and this is what Chris had to say about her:
So Yuki is going to be the biggest Star in America ever. The great thing about Yuki and I’m just excited for everybody to get to know her and enjoy what we enjoy. Yuki is one of our hard finds from Bachelor Japan and she was just so huge, so successful and I believe that the story is correct. There’s a loose interpretation. She wasn’t brought back for the next one because she was too big of a Star. And now we know why because when she was on, we have this Bank of Monitors obviously in our Control Room and we all were just mesmerized by this girl and every time she was on TV. We really are the most jaded people in the world and if we’re sitting there just obsessed and we’re like screw everybody else. Get Ben and Dean off camera. Just, I just wanna see Yuki talk for days. And so she was just fascinating. She was incredibly sweet and yes, we had a Translator. My guess I would say, over under, it was probably 15 to 20 words that she legitimately knew in English and then we had a Japanese Translator who helped us and helped Yuki because I would go in and say whatever it is that I needed to say.
My second favorite character on The Bachelor Winter Games is Ashley I., we asked about Ashley I. and all her emotions. Chris modestly said:
That’s I love Ashley. What you see is what you get. I’ve been around her on camera obviously now for years and off camera and I always love and respect people who just own who they are. No matter what that is. We’re all different shapes, sizes and whatever, backgrounds, and you bring, we all bring something different to the table. And as long as you own that and you are who you are, I respect that like I get it. And that’s Ashley like I’ll be talking to her at a concert. She’ll be talking about whatever and suddenly, she’ll start crying. By the way sometimes she’s laughing hysterically and it turns into crying. And she’s happy and she cries and it’s her.
So now that you’ve done The Bachelor for so long and you have the Winter Games, can you say what you prefer?
I hate to say this out loud to people that are only gonna write this but Bachelor Winter Games may be some of my favorite television we have ever produced. It’s that good. And I don’t know if anyone’s gonna see it. It’s on against the Olympics. It’s on against some tough competition. It’s only a 2 week run. But it’s one of those things, I would love to have good ratings. I’m not even necessarily caring at this point because it’s so damn good, it’s so good. And you guy saw a little bit, a taste of it but it’s phenomenal how well it turned out and it was exciting. It was fun for us to be just really producing on the fly, coming up with great ideas and you see this stuff work and the concept worked.
Fall in love with The Bachelor Winter Games.
